ABOUT

ABOUT

i USE TECHNOLOGY TO SHOW its potential TO LIBERATE US FROM THE RESTRICTIONS OF OUR REALITY. ITS A TOOL THAT CONNECTS US ON DEEPER LEVELS AND CAN HELP CREATE EMPATHY BY IMMERSING people IN AN EXPERIENCE THEY TYPICALLY WOULD'NT HAVE. I BLEND TRADITIONAL AND DIGITAL MEDIUMS TO CREATE INTERACTIVE work THAT REVEALs THE CONCEPT TO viewers AS THEY EXPLORE THE PIECE. layers of imagery that change dynamically to different forms of input add more complexity to the subject. in the age of autonomy the definition of work will become creation. all forms of art are merging into unified experiences that are engaging, interactive, and social.

BIO

ERIC TRICH IS A NEW MEDIA ARTIST FROM DALLAS TEXAS WHO WAS BORN IN 1987. HIS GRANDMOTHER WAS A PAINTER AND INSPIRED HIM TO PURSUE ART. AFTER GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL IN 2006 HE ATTENDED THE ART INSTITUTE OF DALLAS WHERE HE LEARNED 3D ANIMATION AND VIDEO EDITING. DURING THIS TIME HE DISCOVERED OLAFUR ELIASSON AND BASQUIAT WHICH CHALLENGED HIS PRECONCEPTIONS OF WHAT IT MEANT TO BE AN ARTIST. THIS MOTIVATED HIM TO EXPERIMENT WITH COMBINING DIFFERENT MEDIUMS TO CREATE SOMETHING NEW. HE HAD HIS FIRST SOLO SHOW AT THE BRAZOS GALLERY AT RICHLAND COLLEGE IN 2007. HIS SOPHOMORE YEAR HE TRANSFERRED TO MEADOWS SCHOOL OF ART AT S.M.U. AND STUDIED ART HISTORY AND THEORY. AFTER ONLY TWO SEMESTERS HE LEFT SCHOOL AND OPENED 1111 STUDIO GALLERY IN THE DALLAS DESIGN DISTRICT.

1111 SERVED AS A MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SPACE WHERE ERIC CREATED HIS WORK AND COLLABORATED WITH VARIOUS ARTISTS FROM DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE DALLAS ART SCENE. AFTER HOSTING A SHOW FEATURING A PROJECTION INSTALLATION BY ALFREDO SALAZAR HE BEGAN LOOKING AT NEW WAYS TO INCORPORATE HIS DIGITAL BACKGROUND INTO HIS WORK. HE STARTED OVERLAYING TRANSPARENT PHOTOGRAPHS ON TOP OF HIS PAINTINGS BUT DECIDED IT FELT STATIC. EVENTUALLY HE DISCOVERED AUGMENTED REALITY AND IN 2013 HAD A SHOW AT W.A.A.S. GALLERY FEATURING AN AR APP THAT COULD BE DOWNLOADED ON PHONES AND TABLETS. EACH PIECE HAD UNIQUE SOUNDS AND INTERACTIVE ANIMATIONS THAT WHERE OVERLAYED ONTO THE PAINTINGS THROUGH THE PHONES CAMERA. THE LIMITATIONS OF MOBILE TECH AT THE TIME PUSHED HIM TOWARDS USING PROJECTION MAPPING AS AN EASIER ALTERNATIVE TO COMBINE HIS DIGITAL WORK WITH HIS PHYSICAL PIECES.

CURRENTLY ERIC IS DESIGNING INTERACTIVE INSTALLATIONS AND DEVELOPING VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY CONTENT FOR NEW EMERGING PLATFORMS LIKE THE HTC VIVE AND MICROSOFT HOLOLENS. HE ALSO DESIGNS VISUALS FOR MUSICIANS AND LIVE PERFORMANCES. HIS CURRENT STUDIO IS CALLED 3014 SPACE WHERE HE IS WORKING ON RELEASING HIS FIRST VR EXPERIENCE.
